Giant Sand songwriter Howe Gelb is a Tucsonan with Danish connections. Howe married a lovely Dane, Sofie Albertsen Gelb (see PEOPLE for her story), and has been traveling between Tucson and Denmark regularly for some time now. When Sofie went home to Denmark have a baby in 2002 Howe played a long line of solo shows while killing time hanging out in Århus. He even recorded an album of his material with local musicians – mainly from the indie outfit Under Byen. The song “Cowboy Boots on Cobblestones” are about the cool sound his cowboy boots made when walking on cobblestone in the old part of Århus. Listen to Gelb’s track “Denmark Stunningly Soaked” here
