This January and February an extraordinary confluence of all things Danish comes together in the Sonoran desert of Arizona. Two national Danish sports teams and a visit of Danish Ambassador Peter Taksoe-Jensen highlights a series of events, exhibits and lectures that is all about Danes! Locals and visitors alike will celebrate Danish-style while learning about Danish contributions and Danish-Arizona ties.

Danes in the Desert, a series of lectures, exhibits, sporting and culinary events, celebrates Danish contributions to Arizona, America and the world. Topics including furniture, food, design, health, logistics, bio-sciences and defense, will bring focus to Danish innovation, ingenuity and immigrant contributions as well as Denmark’s long-standing friendship with the U.S. in diplomatic, trade and political relations.
Sample Danish pastries and Odense marcipan at culinary events and enjoy a full Danish Smorgasbord February 2nd with everything from pickled herring to kransekage. Hear from and view exhibits on local Danes who have made their mark, as well as famous Danes we all recognize.
Ambassador Taksoe-Jensen will give a public talk on Denmarks’ Green Agenda January 25th 12:10pm – 1:30pm at Viscount Suites Hotel for members of local Rotary International ($20/person), then at 2pm the Ambassador will speak to ‘Denmark’s Global Initiatives’ at the James E. Rogers College of Law – Ares Auditorium. This talk is free and open to the public.
Everyone is invited to ‘Meet the Danes’ including the Ambassador, the athletes and guest speakers 6:00pm Friday January 25th at a reception at Copenhagen Furnishings,Tucson’s leading contemporary furniture showroom. This reception is FREE and open to all. Sample Danish cheese, pastries, marcipan and enjoy Danish beer and libations!
The Danish National Soccer Team will play January 26th against Canada 1:00pm at Kino Stadium, Tucson. FC Tucson in partnership with Soccer United Marketing is hosting this first international friendly to take place in Tucson. Fans from all over will wear red & white for Danish Dynamite! A second match against Mexico is scheduled for January 30th at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.
